Brandy vs. Monica: Which R&B Gem Are You Rockin’ With?

R&b icon, Brandy, took the stage at the 2018 Essence Festival this past weekend and performed some of her hit songs including, “The Boy Is Mine,” her infamous duet with legendary R&b singer, Monica. While performing the song, Brandy replaced the lyrics “the boy is mine” with “the SONG is mine.” After the video of her performance appeared online, fans immediately accused Brandy of dissing Monica. Yikes!

Anyone who grew up listening to 90’s R&b knows that the friction between Brandy and Monica is nothing new! During the success of their Grammy-award winning duet, rumors and reports began to surface about an ongoing feud between the two R&b divas.

Although these rumors were somewhat dispelled and the two artists did collaborate again in 2012, Brandy’s recent behavior indicates otherwise.

Her performance sparked another heated Twitter debate in which fans argued about which singer was more talented. No matter if you’re #teamBrandy or #teamMonica, evidently both singers are legendary in their own right and both remain staple R&b artists of our generation.

Personally, I do believe that Monica is the better vocalist out of the two; however, I do feel that Brandy has more star quality and has a better discography overall. Of course that’s just my humble opinion…but what do you think? Which R&B gem do you rock with the most?
